Davide Zappacosta got himself on the scoresheet on his Champions League debut on Tuesday night.
The Italian defender, a deadline day arrival at Stamford Bridge from Torino, added the Premier League champions’ second goal of the night in their 6-0 thrashing of Qarabag.

As spectacular as the goal might have appeared, plenty of those that witnessed the strike had reservations as to whether or not it was intentional. To many, the position he was in when he struck the ball suggested it was a wayward cross…

Speaking to reporters after the game, Zappacosta’s new manager, Antonio Conte, clarified that the goal was indeed a mis-hit cross.

Not that the majority of those that were at Stamford Bridge to witness it were too bothered.
Chelsea’s next Champions League fixture comes away at Atletico Madrid on September 27. After that, they will host AS Roma on October 18.
