Arsenal’s summer just keeps getting worse with the news that striker Danny Welbeck is to be out for “a period of months” after undergoing surgery on his left knee.
Welbeck has not played for Arsenal since injuring his knee at the end of April, and it appears the England international could miss as much as a year in total with this latest setback.
In a club statement, Arsenal said: ‘It had been hoped he would avoid surgery but after increasing his training workload, the injury to his cartilage did not respond as well as hoped and the decision was taken last week for him to undergo surgery by a leading specialist in the field.’
