Arsenal fans will not be happy with Arsene Wenger’s reported summer spending plans

We've heard this before

It takes some skill to finish above both Manchester clubs, Chelsea and Liverpool and still only finish third in the Premier League.

Yet, somehow, Arsenal look set to achieve just that.

With the Gunners falling short once more, only this time at the expense of Leicester or Tottenham rather than one of the more recognised title contenders, fans might expect Arsene Wenger to splash the cash this summer.

But it seems the Frenchman has no such plans, and he explained the reasons why the summer spending will likely be “limited” at a press conference ahead of this weekend’s game against Crystal Palace.

“We have to strengthen our squad but it’s not obvious to find the players despite the money the English clubs will have,” Wenger said.

“If you look at the top three teams, you will see they have not changed their team a lot,” he added.

After spending big in recent years, this season has seen Arsenal add just two senior players in Petr Cech and Mohamed Elneny, and some have been concerned by the lack of squad depth.

And Wenger’s latest comments suggest the next two windows could be similar, unless a top talent miraculously becomes available at a good price.

It’s okay, though. Jack Wilshere will be ‘like a new signing’ when he has a full pre-season behind him.

That’s definitely going to happen.
