A very definite foul throw
Depending on how you look at it, Benjamin Mendy was responsible for one of the greatest or one of the worst foul throw-ins ever seen in the Premier League Saturday afternoon.
Sure, it was by no means anything like as acrobatic as what that Iranian bloke did in the World Cup, but Mendy’s attempt at a throw-in during the first half of Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Wolves at Molineux on Saturday certainly prompted a decent enough sized reaction.
Before releasing the ball, the French international’s right foot clearly crossed the white line at the side of the pitch. By the time he did let go of it, his other foot was off the ground. A very definite foul throw.
As well as taking a fair bit of stick for the incident from the Wolves fans on the near side touchline, Mendy’s attempted throw also saw him mocked by plenty on social media.

If Guardiola is such a great coach, why can’t he teach Mendy how to take a throw in?! 🙄🙄🙄

Before Mendy can be given best LB in the league status he first needs to learn how to throw

If Mendy stayed off social media he would throw it in correctly

Mendy joined City from Monaco last summer but missed the majority of his first season in England with a knee ligament injury. He recovered in time to be included in France’s World Cup-winning squad earlier this summer, but can perhaps be excused for a looking a little bit rusty in certain aspects of his play – even terrible throw-ins – as he finds his way back after such a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
City later fell behind in the game to a controversial goal from Willy Boly – his attempted header coming off his arm before beating Ederson.
Although City were later denied a penalty, they eventually managed to level things through Aymeric Laporte’s first goal for the club.
