“Thank you, Kate!”
Ryan Garcia survived a second round knock-down to defeat Luke Campbell by TKO, in Dallas on Saturday, thanks to a punishing body blow in the seventh round. Kate Abdo, who was covering the fight for DAZN, had predicted a Garcia win beforehand and he did not disappoint.
Campbell started brightly at the American Airlines Center [sic] and had Garcia in trouble, but the lightweight – and gym-mate of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, clung on and showed his class as the fight wore on. The shot to Campbell’s liver, in the seventh, forced the English fighter to his knees and he could not get his breath back to continue.

Before the fight, Kate Abdo had teed it up with one hell of a compliment to Ryan Garcia’s father, Henry. The former Sky Sports presenter quipped:
“Sean Garcia already fought, Ryan Garcia of course the main attraction.
“You make them pretty, you make them athletic. That’s some good sperm you got there, sir!”

For Ryan Garcia, he needed an impressive win to back up his ostentatious ring entrance. He was carried towards the ring on a throne and wearing a crown, bringing a mix of cat-calls and cheers from the Dallas crowd.
Already boasting a huge following across his social media channels, the Mexican-American was determined to show he had some substance to him.
“They wanted to show me as a social media fighter,” he told DAZN. “Anybody who puts you down, remember you’re not who people tell you who you are – you are who you choose to be. I chose to be a champion tonight.
“He caught me, I was like, ‘I got dropped, this is crazy’. I’ve never been dropped in my life. I had to adjust. I knew I could beat him, I just had to get back up.”
