“I didn’t see anything really special from both fighters”
Oleksandr Usyk’s promoter believes that Tyson Fury’s victory over Deontay Wilder was not as impressive as it has been made out and believes that his prized asset would stand a good chance of beating the ‘Gypsy King’.
Both Usyk and Fury have been involved in thrilling fights in the last couple of weeks, with the former upsetting the odds to beat Anthony Joshua at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, while the latter concluded his trilogy of fights against the ‘Bronze Bomber’, eventually winning the fight with an 11th round knock-out.
The fight between Fury and Wilder was a spectacle from start to finish, with both fighters knocking each other down in the third and fourth rounds respectively, before Fury took control the second half of the fight and secured the win.
As a result, Usyk is to face Joshua in a rematch while Fury must face mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte, but with the 33-year-old currently the WBC champion, it could mean a unification fight between Fury and the Ukrainian may be a future possibility.
Usyk’s fight promoter, Alexander Krassyuk, has already fuelled the fire by claiming his fighter is more than capable of beating Fury and that he was underwhelmed by what he saw between him and Wilder in Las Vegas.
Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “The fight we saw on Saturday night [Fury vs Wilder] was not an impressive one.
“As a fight, it was a huge performance. But as a boxing match, it didn’t look like [one].
“There were two warriors trying to hit each other with anything they could just to kill each other. But on the boxing side and technical side, I didn’t see anything really special from both fighters.
“So I consider Usyk’s chances to be pretty high if he uses his boxing IQ and the way he used to box with AJ.”
