Brendan Rodgers claims he was never interested in Memphis Depay following the PSV winger’s £25m move to Manchester United.
It was widely reported that Liverpool made an offer for Depay, with PSV director Marcel Brands telling Sky Sports: “Liverpool contacted us and talked with the player. They were also one of the clubs interested but at the end Memphis had the final decision and he chose Manchester United.”
However, Rodgers has dismissed those rumours, telling journalists at a press conference on Friday: “It wasn’t something we were ever interested in. We already have four wingers at the club. We have other priorities.”
There were unconfirmed reports that after exiting the press conference, Rodgers raced up to his room, slammed the door shut and began watching Depay YouTube compilations while blasting out 90s break-up songs.
