Bristol City just completely destroyed their biggest rivals by announcing their new signing

They've robbed one of Rovers' best players, and then rubbed salt in the wounds.

Bristol City have just announced the deadline day signing of striker Matty Taylor – from their bitter rivals Bristol Rovers.

Taylor has become the first player to make the trip across Bristol for 30 years – since Trevor Morgan (remember him? No, you almost certainly don’t) did it in January 1987.

Taylor’s notched up 19 goals in 33 games for Rovers this season, which prompted interest from the Championship club, and he’s signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with City.

The Robins were very pleased to announce the signing of their new man on Twitter – and clearly couldn’t resist rubbing a bit of salt into their rivals’ wounds while they were at it.

Yep, that’s Bristol City welcoming their new signing from Bristol Rovers to Bristol.

Now, this could have just been a very innocent mistake, but let’s be honest, it isn’t, is it? It’s a dig, 100%, and it must hurt a bit.

Especially that #MakingBristolProud hashtag – it’s just brutal.

There definitely isn’t anyone on Twitter giving City the benefit of the doubt.

The only consolation for Rovers fans is that City are currently just one place above the relegation zone and have only won a couple of games in the last three months.

Maybe Matty Taylor will fire his new side to safety, or maybe he’ll be facing up against his old club in League One next season.
