Celtic to launch bid for Wales’ Euro 2016 hero

Rodgers' revolution is taking shape

Robert Redmond

This could prove to be a very smart piece of business.

Brendan Rodgers is putting his stamp on Celtic’s squad.

The new Hoops manager made Moussa Dembele his first signing last week. The highly rated 19-year-old had been coveted by a number of clubs, and almost signed for Spurs last January, but joined the Scottish club on a free transfer.

Rodgers is also reportedly chasing Republic of Ireland defender Shane Duffy, and has been linked with a move for Aston Villa winger Scott Sinclair.

Celtic fans will undoubtedly be enthused by Rodgers latest reported target – Wales’ full-back Chris Gunter.

The 26-year-old has been impressive at Euro 2016, and set-up Wales’ third goal against Belgium with a cross to Sam Vokes. Gunter is currently playing for Reading in the Championship but, according to The Daily Mail, has a buy-out clause of a mere £1m.

Gunter will earn his 73rd cap for Wales on Wednesday night against Portugal in Lyon, and would represent a tidy piece of business for Rodgers, who is believed to be in the market for a right-back.
