It’s no secret that plenty of Chelsea fans blame the players, rather than recently-departed manager Jose Mourinho, for this season’s struggles.
They displayed banners in support of the title-winning boss and booed Cesc Fabregas when his name was announced before kick-off, and things didn’t change as the game got underway.
Mourinho thanked the fans in his parting letter, and the support is clearly mutual.
Despite Chelsea racing into an early 2-0 lead over Sunderland, the players weren’t going to get off the hook.
