Gary Lineker and everyone else mock Chris Waddle’s outrageous shirt

Holiday mode...

What is it with British blokes when they get on their holidays?

As soon as they leave the grey skies of Blighty for the azure shores of continental Europe they lose all concept of fashion and wear the jazziest gear they can find.

Chris Waddle is a case in point. While the BBC has relaxed its dressing etiquette in recent years, there’s still an element of sartorial convention to follow.

If there was a ‘smart/casual dress code, gents’ memo sent around before the Beeb went live on its France vs Germany semi final coverage, Waddle wasn’t copied in on it.

The former England striker went full ‘Brits Abroad’ with his choice of shirt for the grand footballing occasion and it didn’t go unnoticed. But when you see the colour of it, how the hell could it have gone unnoticed?

Presenter Dan Walker was just mentioning how Waddle still has considerable influence around Marseille way after a stint with the club from ’89 to ’92.

Who could forget that hair do?

Gary Lineker wasn’t going to let go to waste the opportunity to get a dig in about Waddle’s less-than-subtle attire, saying “I should think so wearing that shirt!”

The floodgates then opened on Twitter…
