Clarence Seedorf could be on his way to the Premier League

Kevin Beirne

Newcastle United have identified Clarence Seedorf as the man they want to replace Steve McClaren according to reports in Italy.

The former AC Milan midfielder’s spell as coach at the San Siro was short-lived, but Newcastle have held secret talks with a view to bringing him to the Premier League according to Calciomercato.

The Dutchman won the Champions League with a record three clubs (Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan) but his coaching career has been somewhat less glamorous.

He lasted just 22 games at the helm with AC Milan before being replaced by his former team-mate Filippo Inzaghi in June of last year.

But it seems Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is willing to take a risk on the 39-year-old with the Magpies in 17th place after winning just two of their 13 Premier League games this season.
