“Trust me, I’m going to stop Floyd and you’re all going to eat your words. The whole world is gonna eat their words.”
Those were Conor McGregor’s words to boxing reporters at Madison Square Garden, back in March.
He likes to ‘predict these things’ and he surely sensed his multi-million dollar fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr was coming.
The professional boxing bout has now been confirmed for August 26 in Las Vegas and McGregor is deep into his preparations for the fight. John Kavanagh, his coach, is impressed at how far ‘The Notorious’ has come in such a short amount of time.
Kavanagh believes McGregor will be fully prepared for the fight before he flies out to the United States. He told The MMA Hour:
“We’re very proud to be carrying that torch [for mixed martial arts]. Like I said, the mood in the camp is one of ready to see a lot of jaws drop on the night.”
McGregor will continue to train at the specially constructed facilities beside Kavanagh’s Straight Blast Gym, in Dublin, until mid July. His entire camp will then shift to Las Vegas for the final six weeks before the fight but you can expect a healthy dose of media obligations in between.
Anyone following McGregor on Instagram will be enjoying his steady stream of posts but, if that’s not enough, there is a new series beginning – via The Mac Life – that will follow him as the countdown for McGregor-Mayweather ticks on.
