Conor McGregor seems to have learned a great deal from Ronda Rousey loss

When Holly Holm landed that devastating head kick at UFC 193, the Ronda Rousey myth was destroyed and her hype train was derailed.

Conor McGregor, who has achieved a similar level of fame as Rousey in the sport, was asked at UFC 194 media scrum about what he took away from Rousey losing her belt, and he explained he learnt a great deal.

“If I was to take away something from Ronda’s (loss) is maybe push everything away.”

McGregor hinted that things outside of fighting may have impacted on Rousey in the fight, but was careful not to mention anything in particular such as her coach’s financial issues. He also gave Holm credit for her performance in the fight.

“I don’t know her situation but maybe from looking from where I was at she was doing a little bit too much on the media side.”

“That coupled with personal things that I maybe don’t know about maybe could have hampered her training a little bit, maybe could have hampered her mind. Then the particular style of opponent in Holly may have made her a little bit too emotionally invested. “

The Notorious added that he received one particularly poignant message from the build up to the fight.

“It’s important just to still the mind, calm it. Make everything smaller than it is. That’s maybe what I would take from that.”

i.e. You’ve got to put in that Clubber Lang work.
