Conor McGregor’s “apology” to WWE fans only winds them up even more

This is like shooting fish in a barrel for Conor McGregor.

The undisputed UFC featherweight champion incited the fury of the foam-finger army during Friday night’s UFC 202 conference call when he tore into athletes on the WWE’s roster.

McGregor seemingly upset a lot of professional wrestling fans by referring to the majority of its stars as “messed up pussies,” before laying into former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar for testing positive for a banned substance in two pre-fight tests before his highly anticipated return at UFC 200.

“I mean fair play to Brock (Lesnar), he got in there and fought but, at the end of the day, he was juiced up to the fucking eyeballs so how can I respect that?”

“The other guy (CM Punk) hasn’t fought yet so I don’t know about him yet.”

“There are some dons in that wrestling game. The McMahons, they’re dons. Triple H is a don. The Rock is a don. But the rest of them are fucking pussies!”

McGregor took to Twitter on Sunday morning to offer up an apology to WWE fans for any offence caused.

However, he began the tweet with “I didn’t mean no disrespect”, which was always going to be followed by something that would cause disrespect, and sure enough, he delivered.

McGregor has been praised for his mental warfare game in which he antagonises his opponents through his trash talk and comments in the media in order to take up residence inside their head.

It seems he has achieved the exact same thing with some die-hard WWE fans.
