Conor McGregor has made UFC history with his victory over Eddie Alvarez.
The Irish fighter stopped his opponent in the second round of their bout at Madison Square Garden in New York, stunning him with a trademark left, before unloading a flurry of punches that Alvarez had no answer to.
Making history isn’t meant to look that easy, but McGregor is now the first two-weight champion in the 23-year history of the UFC, adding the lightweight title to the featherweight strap he won against Jose Aldo last December.
McGregor also announced he is to become a father next year, before delivering a message to the UFC brass in his post-fight press conference.
“I want equal share, I want what I deserve – what I’ve earned,” the fighter from Crumlin said.

Before all that though, McGregor took a moment to bask in his achievement with his first tweet since defeating Alvarez.
McGregor posed with his two UFC belts, with the Madison Square Garden sign in the background, a photo that arguably encapsulates a lifetime’s work for the fighter.
The 28-year-old has long stated his ambition to be a two-weight UFC champion, and four years after achieving the feat in the Cage Warriors promotion, he has done so in the world’s top MMA promotion.
McGregor also made UFC history in the world’s most famous sporting arena, where some of history’s sporting greats have competed. Whatever the future holds, he was going to enjoy this moment.
