Controversial World Cup ref Craig Joubert will take charge of an important Six Nations tie

Kevin Beirne

The referee who took charge of Scotland’s quarter-final defeat to Australia will take charge of England’s showdown with Wales next spring.

Craig Joubert will take charge of the game on March 12 in the same stadium in which he awarded Australia an erroneous penalty, which knocked Scotland out of the Rugby World Cup in October.

The South African official has also been named as a touch judge for Scotland’s clash with Ireland. Luckily for Joubert, he won’t have to worry about being banned from Scotland as the game will take place in Dublin on the final day of the tournament.

World Cup final ref Nigel Owens will only take charge of one game – England’s trip to France, while Australian Angus Gardner will be given his Six Nations debut as Ireland host Italy.
