Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted at his Real Madrid departure date

United are listening

We’re not sure this is quite what some Manchester United fans had in mind.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been speaking about his Real Madrid future and has admitted that he has thought about when he might leave the club.

The world’s most expensive player (depending on who you believe, anyway), has been linked with a return to former club Manchester United in recent times, and has butted heads with various figures of authority at the Bernabeu during his time at the club, but his latest comments suggest he is happy to spend at least the next two seasons in the Spanish capital.

That would see him to the end of his current contract in June 2018, when he would be aged 33 and perhaps on the downside of his remarkable career.

“I have been in Spain six years. I was also at Manchester United for six years and that was a great experience, a great championship, but for me this is the best league in the world,” Ronaldo said after receiving Marca’s Pichichi Award as La Liga’s leading scorer last season. “It’s a privilege to be here.

“I want to stay here two more years. And the future, we’ll see. The two years I’m talking about take me to the end of my contract.”
