Cristiano Ronaldo essentially accused his former teammate Angel di Maria of buckling under the pressure.
Ronaldo is in London to promote the new film ‘ Ronaldo ‘, where he explained that he saw in Di Maria’s face that he had given up as Real Madrid trailed to Atletico Madrid in the 2014 Champions League final.
Real Madrid talisman Ronaldo told the Daily Mail,
“At 88 minutes gone in the final, I looked for Di Maria and I saw him face down thinking: ‘we have a better team but we are going to lose.’ But I always believe.”
“I will always say that it doesn’t matter if you play good or bad, as long as you win. In 20 years, no-one will look back and say; ‘they played better, they created more chances.’ It just depends on who wins.”
Madrid went on to win the game 4-1 after extra time… no thanks to Angel di Maria, apparently.
