Florentino Pérez must choose between his star player and his club’s manager, if reports from Spain are to be believed.
Spanish outlet AS and La Gazetta Dello Sport are reporting that Cristiano Ronaldo told the Real Madrid president that it was “Benitez or me” following Madrid’s 4-0 hammering in this weekend’s El Clasico.
Both papers are claiming that Ronaldo will seek a move elsewhere if Benitez remains as manager.
This is a particularly interesting development for Manchester United fans in particular. Louis van Gaal sent the British tabloids into overdrive with his comments on potentially bringing Ronaldo back to Old Trafford.
“We are looking at all players, not just Ronaldo. But these players are mostly ungettable,” he said. “With Ronaldo, let’s wait and hope. There is no trainer in the world that doesn’t like him.”
Ronaldo might not be that “ungettable” if Benitez keeps his job at the Bernabeu.
