If you ever find yourself in Funchal – capital city of Madeira – there’s a good chance you’ll see the Cristiano Ronaldo museum.
Opened just over a year ago on the Portuguese island where the Real Madrid star grew up, a huge statue of Ronaldo (looking more like Joe Hart) stands outside of it.

Many Madeirans have great pride in Ronaldo’s achievements, so the news that unknown vandals had daubed ‘Messi 10’ on the statue angered many of the locals.

Katia Aveiro, Ronaldo’s sister, expressed her annoyance at the vandalism, in a statement, claiming that her brother is undeserving of such disrespect and the jealousy that people hold towards him – especially with the work he has done for his home island.
She also claims that those responsible for the act would be better suited to a life in Syria – currently in the grips of war.
Aveiro said: ‘My beautiful island, regrettably, is still inhabited by some frustrated savages who deserve to live in Syria, between people that show no respect and hold no value for life in society.
‘I apologise for the ones who live the sadness of war, but I believe some people don’t belong on the land they live in.’
