Teammates of amateur cricketer Alex Tait have set about crowdfunding treatment for the popular player after he suffered serious injuries during practice.

Tait was using indoor nets when he was struck between the eyes with a cricket ball, leaving him with fractures to both eye sockets, his skull, nose, cheekbones and forehead.

His club, Lightcliffe CC in Yorkshire, have set about raising money to support the player, who will be unable to carry out his day job while awaiting a series of operations for his injuries.

At the time of writing, the crowdfunding page has raised more than £7,000 of its £10,000 target.

‘Alex has played at Lightcliffe CC all his life and is a model Club man,’ writes teammate Chris Taylor, who set up the crowdfunding effort.

‘The Cricket Family is renowned for coming together to support each other and Alex is hopeful cricketers around the country will assist his current position and donate a small amount to allow him to continue living whilst he endures the coming months.

‘This could have happened to any cricketer any level. Alex appreciates any support you can provide.’
