He might have to take a wage cut
Yaya Touré’s time at Manchester City came to an end at the end of last season after nine successful seasons, during which he was an integral part of their three league title victories.
The Ivorian is keen to remain in England as his family are settled here, but he has not yet found a new club. At the start of the window he was linked with moves to Everton and Burnley, though neither of those rumours have materialised.
The latest rumour to pop up is one linking Touré to Crystal Palace, who are reportedly set to offer him a contract for the upcoming season.
Touré is now 35 years old and while his powers are fading, his technical ability is still in the world class bracket and he would more than replace the departing Yohan Cabaye’s passing ability if not his energy in midfield.
Palace are reportedly willing to pay Touré £100k per week – less than he got at City but a respectable wage for him considering his age.
That would put Touré on more or less the same wage as his compatriot Wilfried Zaha and Palace’s record signing Christian Benteke.
Touré has apparently moved his family down to London with the intention of playing in the capital, but is unlikely to be taken on by any of Chelsea, Arsenal or Tottenham. A short term contract at Palace could suit all parties very well for a year, and boost Palace’s chances of surviving for another year in the Premier League.
