Scotland went into their World Cup qualifier with England with cautious optimism.
Their opponents were top of their group, but had scored just three games in their three games against Slovakia, Malta and Slovenia.
Gordon Strachan’s team had the opportunity to overtake their oldest rivals with victory at Wembley, having given their goal difference an early boost with a 5-1 win in Malta.
But things didn’t go to plan, with headed goals from Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Gary Cahill handing the hosts victory, even if the scoreline may have flattered the hosts.
While England fans were full of praise for the Three Lions, and their papers followed suit, it was a different situation as far as Scotland were concerned.
Indeed the Daily Record took the rare step of not even bringing themselves to share a single photo from the game on their back page, such was their embarrassment at the result.

Strachan came under increased pressure after the defeat, which leaves Scotland with four points from as many games and an uphill struggle to escape their qualifying group.
However the former Celtic boss would not be drawn on his future, saying after the game that now was “not the time” to think about it.
And, while Strachan wasn’t in the mood for discussing his future, others certainly were.
