You've got to admire him...

You have got to admire Danny Ings’ indefatigable positivity in the face of yet another devastating injury blow.

The Liverpool striker looks set to be out for the rest of the season after suffering another serious injury setback in the EFL Cup game against Spurs

The former Burnley forward is undergoing knee surgery after picking up the second long-term injury of his Anfield career, which could see him out of the game for another year.

Ings says he has been ‘blown away’ by the support he has received from Reds fans as he faces another miserable spell on the sidelines.

But as Jurgen Klopp’s men march on neck-and-neck in the nascent title race, you have to admire and respect his resolute attitude to comeback from this cruelest of injury set-backs.

He tweeted out a message to all those who offered him messages of support and by the sounds of it, the 24-year-old has no plans of throwing in the towel just yet.

Ings has struggled with injury throughout his career and had only just returned from a length lay-off with an anterior ligament problem in his left knee.

He has only made nine appearances for the Merseyside outfit since joining from the Clarets last June.

But he showed just how potent forward he still is, netting a hattrick in Liverpool U23s Cup victory over Ipswich as he neared match fitness last month.

Ings made his first senior appearance of the season against Derby in the cup then again against Spurs in Liverpool’s 2-1 victory.  It proved to be his last as he damaged the cartilage in his right knee.

“To say we are gutted would be an understatement; he is such a great boy and has worked so hard that he deserves better luck than this,” Klopp said in a statement.

“It is typical of Danny’s personality, on and off the pitch, that he picked up this injury to his knee when courageously trying to win the ball back for his team by making a tackle.

“But it is this same personality that means he will come back as good and as strong from this latest setback as he has done in the past.”

Messages of support poured in from fans on Twitter too for Ings…
