“I cannot ignore when my family is threatened.”
Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has revealed a death threat to his family he received on Instagram, describing it as ‘disgusting’.
The Croatian attracted criticism for his performance in his side’s 4-1 defeat to Tottenham last weekend. He was at fault for the opening two goals in the game and was substituted by manager Jürgen Klopp after just half an hour of play at Wembley. He is believed to have received the message after the game.
Lovren shared a screengrab of the message via his Instagram stories. ‘Horrible what kind of people we have’, an accompanying caption read.
Lovren then followed this with another message, in which he made clear his feelings about the threat.
‘I don’t mind when people talk shit about me, it’s more about them,’ he says.
‘But I cannot ignore when my family is threatened.
‘I just can’t and won’t accept that. Disgusting.’
The BBC report that Merseyside police are aware of the threat received by Lovren but have yet to receive a complaint.
Lovren was named in the starting line-up for Liverpool’s weekend game with Huddersfield at Anfield, only to be withdrawn with an injury during the warm-up for the match.
