We wouldn’t hold our breath for this rematch just yet.
Conor McGregor disposed of Diego Brandao in just four minutes when the pair met in the main event of UFC Fight Night 46 in Dublin last July and the thought of seeing them meet up again simply makes no sense right now.
While Brandao, who faces Brian Ortega at UFC 195 next weekend, has admirably bounced back from that Dublin defeat by going 2-0 since, McGregor’s career is just on a completely different trajectory to that of the Brazilian.
But that’s not stopping Brandao from asking for a rematch with ‘The Notorious’ as the TUF 14 winner explains how he wasn’t knocked out by McGregor but, rather, asked the referee to stop the fight.
“(McGregor) didn’t knock me out,” Brandao told MMAFighting’s Guilherme Cruz. “Everybody knows I asked to stop the fight. I said ‘stop hitting me’. He didn’t knock me out. And that’s a fight I want for the future. Nobody knows what I went through in that camp, but I have nothing to say. I didn’t deserve the victory that night. I still have a lot to prove, but I’ll get there step by step.”
