The statue was unveiled in India on Monday.
Diego Maradona travelled to India to unveil a statue of himself and it has attracted ridicule from just about everyone online. The 57-year-old footballing legend was on hand to reveal the 12-foot high likeness in Kolkata, which depicts the moment he lifted the World Cup trophy for Argentina in 1986.
Maradona handed cheques worth 10,000 rupees (€131) to 11 cancer patients and claimed that he does not consider himself a god of football.
“I don’t think I’m the god of football. I just consider myself as a simple football player.  It’s amazing to have my statue here. I am glad to be in Kolkata for the second time. Thank you very much for the love.”
A bronze bust of Cristiano Ronaldo, revealed earlier this year, was lambasted for looking nothing like the Real Madrid star and it appears that Maradona’s has attracted a similar reaction.
