The transfer window is a sporting event of its own. In the absence of domestic football, we become mildly obsessed – often reluctantly – with the movement of players from one club to another. And due to unprecedented amounts of TV revenue sloshing about, the stakes are as high as some of the fees.
The transfer activity of the Premier League’s 20 clubs has been varied. Some have been rumoured to be buying all sorts of star names and managed very little, whilst others have surprised with some very exciting names indeed. But how do they compare as we approach the tail-end of July.
We decided to equate the transfer window activity of each top-flight club to a popular song. No explanation, no justification. Just a tune that sums up each club’s activity. Think of it as like Top of the P…actually don’t. Let’s not open that can of words. Cue music…
