Ebbsfleet United make the Mambo No. 5 shirt a reality (sort of)… and it’s all for a good cause

Fair play to them...

Much like the rest of us, Ebbsfleet United couldn’t help but notice the fuss being kicked up over Yado Mambo’s shirt number recently.

Much to the disappointment of Lou Bega / Perez Prado fans everywhere, it was noted that the defender wore the number 18 – not five – for the Vanarama National League side.

Now, after receiving plenty of attention from social media users, Ebbsfleet have released a statement confirming that they will bow to the demands of football fans the world over and make the Mambo number five football shirt a real thing… if only on a temporary basis.

Explaining that due to current captain Dave Winfield being a ‘pretty big chap’ and the league not allowing squad numbers to be changed until the end of the season, the statement says that it won’t be able to make any long-lasting changes just yet.

Instead, the club have opted to auction off an exclusive Mambo No. 5 shirt, complete with certificate of authenticity and signed photograph of the player, in order to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

‘The Mambo furore began as a result of his televised appearance against Leyton Orient and our nominated charity for that game was Prostate Cancer UK,’ the statement reads.

‘Therefore, we are auctioning off, via eBay, an exclusive Mambo No.5 home shirt (size XL) and certificate of authenticity with a signed photograph of Yado holding the shirt.’

Explaining that a private bid of £350 has already been received, the statement ends by inviting fans to enter the bidding, which can be done by clicking this link here.
