Roma have had better nights…
AS Roma had a night to forget in Florence on Wednesday night.
Not only were they knocked out of the Coppa Italia at the quarter-finals stage by Fiorentina, they were handed a considerable beating, too.
A hat-trick for Federico Chiesa (son of Enrico Chiesa), a couple more for Giovanni Simeone (son of Diego Simeone) and one each for Luis Fernando Muriel Fruto and Marco Benassi saw the home side run out 7-1 winners at Stadio Artemio Franchi.
Aleksandr Kolarov’s goal proved to be nothing more than a consolation for Roma, who also had Edin Dzeko sent off in controversial circumstances with just under 20 minutes still to play.
Footage of the former Manchester City striker appears to show him spitting at the referee Gianluca Manganiello after he failed to award Roma a free-kick. The official swiftly responded by showing him a red card.

Should the referee confirm this in his match report, the Bosnian is likely to face a lengthy ban.
Roma are currently fifth in the Serie A table, a point behind AC Milan, who they host in the Stadio Olimpico at the weekend.
