Edinson Cavani’s very high-profile penalty spat with Neymar may be in the past, but the chances of him inviting the Brazilian round for tea at his place any time soon appear very slim.
The Paris Saint-Germain teammates were seen arguing prior to Cavani taking and missing a spot-kick in their win against Lyon a month ago. It was enough for Cavani to storm off the pitch at the end of the game and promptly leave the stadium. Neymar, on the other hand, reportedly took the drastic step of asking the club’s owners to sell the Uruguayan. Worse still, he even went and unfollowed him on Instagram (That’ll show him!).
Things do appear to have calmed down in the time since, but a recent Cavani interview with SFR Sport (via the Mirror) makes it clear enough that the pair of far from being the best of buddies.
“The penalty case, that’s in the past,” the former Napoli striker said. “These are things that happen in football.
“We must find the solution together and function as a team. We need to be a competitive team, but we do not need to be friends.
“You have to be professional, and afterwards everyone has their own life.”
Cavani also added that penalty taking duties up to his manager, Unai Emery, and nobody else.
“This is up to the coach to decide. What is best for the team?
“I think the person in charge will find the solution. When he makes the decision, it will be like that.
“Did he make his decision? I don’t think so.”
