The FA has decided against it

Many England fans had been hoping to give their World Cup heroes a warm welcome upon their return from Russia. However, it has been revealed that they will not get the chance, after the FA decided against putting on an open top bus parade.

England exceeded all expectations by reaching the semi-finals only to lose to Croatia 2-1 in extra time. They then lost the third place playoff to Belgium 2-0, confirming their 4th place finish in the tournament.

And while much of the hysteria surrounding the national team has died down, the squad have still achieved so much by reconnecting a nation with its football team.

The team are due to arrive at Birmimgham airport today, and the airport’s Twitter account has stated that there will be no public viewing area for people to greet the team as they return home, per requests from the FA.

Gareth Southgate is reportedly not in favour of having a parade; an FA spokesperson said: “There is no planned celebration at this point.

“We are not actively promoting the date, the time or even the airport they will return to.”

The decision has left many fans disappointed, as they were hoping to show their appreciation to the players for their efforts out in Russia.
