England set to name Japan’s World Cup mastermind as first foreign coach

Kevin Beirne

For the first time in the history of the RFU, a non-Englishman will become the head coach of the English national team.

According to The Daily Expressformer Japan coach Eddie Jones will take over from the departing Stuart Lancaster despite having already agreed to join South African Super Rugby franchise the Stormers.

It is believed that the RFU will have to pay out around £100,000 in compensation to the Cape Town team in order to secure the services of the former Saracens coach.

Jones has previous international experience having masterminded Japan’s shock opening day win over South Africa at this year’s World Cup, as well as coaching Australia for four years a decade ago.

The Tasmanian brought the Wallabies to the World Cup final at home in 2003, but they were beaten by the now infamous Jonny Wilkinson drop goal.
