What was he thinking?
Everton’s Europa League tie with Lyon became heated during a tense second-half at Goodison Park on Thursday night. Ronald Koeman’s side came into the fixture on the back of some rotten form in the Premier League. They’re currently in 16th place, with just eight points and five goals from their first eight games of the season.
It didn’t get much better for Everton or their under-pressure manager in their Europa League tie. After just six minutes, Nabil Fekir scored a penalty for Lyon, and the French side had an excellent chance to double their lead but Memphis Depay couldn’t finish despite being one-on-one with Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal.
Then it all kicked off the second-half. Everton captain on the night Ashley Williams pushed Anthony Lopes, the Lyon goalkeeper, sparking an awful lot of pushing and shoving between the two teams.
An Everton supporter also tried to get involved in the dispute between the teams, and could be seen holding a small child as he walked towards the players. Some of the Lyon players appeared shocked, and understandably so, that someone would behave such a way with a small child in his hands.
You can watch the moment of intense stupidity here:
Williams was booked for the incident with the Lyon goalkeeper and went on to score an equaliser for the home side, before Bertrand Traore won the game for Lyon.
