In fairness, who can blame them.
A fresh new Premier League season is a beautiful thing. There are no points on the board, no disappointments already weighing you down. You are free to start as equals with any team in the land, and go into the new term with renewed optimism and a heart full of dreams.
Unless you’re Everton, in which case the Premier League computer does its best to piss on your chips June 14.
You’ll know by now that the 2017/18 fixtures are out, and as always, it has generated huge excitement and anticipation for the new season. But for Toffees’ fans, it’s one hell of a start.
They start with a tough game against the always tricky Stoke City at home, then it’s Manchester City away, Chelsea away, Spurs at home, and Manchester United away. Talk about baptism of fire.
