Before today, West Ham hadn’t beaten Everton in the Premier League since April 2007.
That’s 15 games, home and away. West Ham have been relegated and promoted in the interim, while the game was so long ago that a young Carlos Tevez was playing for the Londoners.
The record looked unlikely to go when Romelu Lukaku and Aaron Lennon gave the hosts a 2-0 lead at Goodison Park, as Kevin Mirallas’ first-half red card looked not to have bothered the Toffees.
But when Lukaku missed a penalty to make it 3-0, the visitors sensed there could be something in it for them.
Sure enough, goals from Michail Antonio, Diafra Sakho and Dimitri Payet – all in the final 15 minutes – turned the game on its head and gave the Hammers all three points.
Everton fans have been frustrated by late goals already this season, not least against Bournemouth and Chelsea, but their reaction today was on another level entirely.
I still like Martinez as a human being, but fuck is he bad at managing the final 15 minutes of games.

How many times has Martinez failed to shut down games when winning comfortably. It's negligence football management of the highest degree.

What a ridiculous performance, how do you dominate a game for 75 minutes, winning it 2-0, and end up losing 3-2?

I hope the first thing Farhad Moshiri does in the summer is sack Martinez. He's holding us back. 3 seasons of bizarre management. #EFC

Whisper it, but maybe Joey Barton was right.
