Everton fans were laughing after a former Toffee helped stun Liverpool

What a day for Everton.

It may well turn out that the best thing Oumar Niasse has done in his time as an Everton player has come in a Hull City shirt.

The £13.5m striker was loaned out to the Tigers after failing to score for Everton’s first team, but already has two for the club with whom he is spending the remainder of the season.

Niasse’s first goal, in the EFL Cup semi-final second leg victory over Manchester United, was not quite enough to earn Hull a place in the final.

But his second proved far more important – and more enjoyable for Everton fans.

After Alfred N’Diaye capitalised on a Simon Mignolet mistake to give Marco Silva’s team the lead against Liverpool, Niasse struck late on to earn all three points.

It was a great day for Everton, who beat Bournemouth 6-3 at Goodison Park, and Niasse helping see off their local rivals was the cherry on top.

Everton are now just six points below Liverpool in the Premier League table, and some fans seemed to enjoy Niasse’s moment almost as much as witnessing Romelu Lukaku’s four-goal haul.

Those in the red half of Merseyside weren’t quite so happy with how things turned out, and can you blame them?
