Everton reportedly on the verge of a £200m American takeover

JOE

Anything Liverpool can, Everton can do possibly adequately as well…

It looks like both Merseyside clubs could soon be in the hands of American owners, as a US-led consortium seem on the verge of buying into the Goodison Park club in a £200m deal.

The Times report that John Jay Moores and Charles Noell are at the forefront of the takeover deal.

Both made their money from technology, and Moores is the previous owner of the San Diego Padres baseball franchise. So an American called John with baseball links buying into a Liverpudlian club…sound familiar?

Everton have long been trying to secure outside investment in order to help them compete with the likes of Man United, City, Liverpool and Arsenal, and fans will be hoping that the mooted deal could lead to further investment by the new owners.

Of course, a more pessimistic view would be that the consortium are eager to make a quick buck, and have identified Everton as a great opportunity to do just that with a new TV deal kicking in soon…
