Great Scott!
It seems we’ve all inadvertently been sucked into some kind of time-bending wormhole and ended up in the ’90s again.
Or at least that’s the firm opinion of many music and football fans who feel they’ve seen the breaking news events of this week all before.
Thursday was certainly an eventful day for the northwest of England. First there was the not completely unexpected news that Everton had finally ditched their under-fire manager Roberto Martinez. What seemed like a phenomenal appointment in his first season didn’t quite pan out that way.
Then there was the lemon-tastic news that Manchester’s own the Stone Roses had released their first single in two decades. Breezy ditty ‘All For One’ was showcased on BBC Radio One and online at 8pm on Thursday evening and was the subject of keen debate amongst fans and critics alike.
But the combination of the Roses’ brand new tune, alongside the news that former Everton manager Joe Royle (along with David Unsworth) would take charge of the dead rubber against Norwich City on Sunday, had many wondering what year it was again…

Stone Roses release new record & Joe Royle's managing Everton. Briefly thought I was back in the 90s, but no, I'm still grey with a beer gut
