A lot of things used to be better back in the day.
You know the stuff. Children’s TV. Chocolate bars. Wayne Rooney.
There’s plenty to be said for the new era of football video games, but everyone holds a candle for the 90s and its basic-yet-endearing versions of the titles we know and love today.
One of our favourites is FIFA’s Road to World Cup ’98, with its international qualification, indoor football and – of course – crunching fouls on goalkeepers.
And Rooney was kind enough to remind us of that feature with a bad foul on Claudio Bravo in the second half of the Manchester Derby.
Bravo had earlier been lucky to avoid punishment for diving into a challenge with the Manchester United striker, but Rooney’s foul had everyone saying just one thing – even if some of them got their years confused.

Rooney, unlike Chelsea’s Diego Costa on the opening weekend of the season, was unable to make an impact on the scoresheet after only being booked for a foul on the opposition goalkeeper.
City were already 2-1 ahead at that point, with Kevin de Bruyne and Kelechi Iheanacho giving Pep Guardiola’s team a 2-0 lead before Zlatan Ibrahimovic capitalised on a Claudio Bravo error to reduce the deficit, but that was the end of the scoring.
The result leaves Manchester City three points clear of their neighbours with 12 points from 12 in the Premier League this season.
