What is it about Liverpool teams and unreliable goalkeepers?
Sander Westerveld committed a mistake so bad that the club signed two new goalkeepers almost immediately, David James picked up the ‘calamity’ nickname during his time at Anfield, and even Pepe Reina was prone to an error or two.
This season is no better, with the Reds being able to take their pick from not one but two error-prone goalkeepers.
Loris Karius lost his position as first choice after a string of unconvincing displays, but the man who replaced him between the posts – Simon Mignolet – has arguably been just as guilty.
And the Belgian was certainly at fault for Hull City’s opener at Anfield, failing to gather a tame Harry Maguire header under moderate pressure and presenting the ball to debutant Alfred N’Diaye, who couldn’t miss.
It was a nightmare for the former Sunderland goalkeeper, who fans have always considered capable of an error or two, but fans gave him the benefit of the doubt.
Only joking, they completely tore into him after a goal which handed Marco Silva’s team a half-time lead at the KCOM Stadium.
"Mignolet hasn't covered himself in glory" up there with "Allardyce facing his former club" and "red card Bastia" as handy MBM shortcuts…

Why on earth didnt we buy a new keeper. Mignolet is totally and utterly useless. #Useless #terrible #pathetic . @LFC #HULLIV

Defence ball watching, outnumbered on zonal marking and Mignolet being very soft. Terrible goal to concede

Time to give 39-year-old Alex Manninger a chance?
