It turns out Premier League managers don’t pick their starting XIs based purely on who you have in your fantasy football team. Who knew?
With a double gameweek in the offing, plenty of people thought they were on to a winner with some of Manchester United’s young stars.
Anthony Martial and Timothy Fosu-Mensah have been two of the club’s better performers of late, with the club’s form noticeably dipping in their absence.
And with home games against Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, bringing the duo into the team was a no-brainer for many fans.
Unfortunately they didn’t account for a little thing called squad rotation, and Louis van Gaal opted to hand starts to Wayne Rooney and Antonio Valencia instead. It didn’t go down well.
Triple captain #martial for an easy double header this week and #vangaal drops him. Sigh 😪 #bbcfootball

Made Martial my fantasy captain in the double-header week. Dropped vs. bottom club. Excellent start.

Another Red Devils player, Jesse Lingard, was another popular choice from those operating on a budget. Guess where he started the game.

Still, at least popular fantasy league choice Romelu Lukaku was starting. Wait, what?
Lukaku on the bench. Fantasy football managers right now. #FPL pic.twitter.com/6ORbkDnC21

Might propose a PHD research project on LvG dropping Fosu-Mensah and Martial. A riddle that should keep me busy for 4 years at least
