EA Sports, the makers of Fifa 17, have allowed players of the game’s Ultimate Team mode to use the kit and crest of Chapecoense, after many of the Brazilian club’s players and staff were killed in Tuesday’s plane crash.

Ultimate Team players were sent a message on Tuesday, encouraging them to use the kit and crest as a way of showing support for those connected with the grief-stricken club.

‘Wear this kit and crest in support of the friends, family, and friends of Chapecoense,’ the message reads.

The Brazilian club were on their way to the Colombian city of Medellin for the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final at the time of the crash, which  killed  71 of the 77 players, staff, journalists and crew on board.

Three days of mourning have been declared by the Brazilian government and thousands of the club’s supporters held a vigil for the crash victims on Tuesday night with many of them gathering in the city centre to walk to the stadium. A service was also held at Chapeco’s cathedral.

Atletico Nacional, the side that were due to face Chapecoense in Sudamericana final, have since requested that the title be awarded to the club. Other top flight Brazilian clubs have asked that Chapecoense are given immunity from relegation over the next three years, with many offering to loan them players.
