We imagine there’s some panicked shredding taking place at FIFA HQ this morning after more than a dozen officials and marketing executives were arrested on corruption allegations.
Following a dawn raid by the Swiss police, officials were led out of the Baur au Lac hotel in Zurich behind bedsheets – with JOE suspecting this was done in order to facilitate months of “sweeping it under the covers” puns.

The arrests come as a result of an extensive FBI investigation, leading to an outpouring of confused patriotism from a number of Americans.

As well as some more well-trodden Switzerland jokes…

Those arrested include FIFA vice president Jeffrey Webb, a man publicly backed by president Sepp Blatter as a potential successor. Blatter, who is standing for re-election this Friday, was not among those arrested.

Following the FBI involvement, the jokes about Americans’ attitude towards ‘soccer’ soon flowed.

It was reported last year that Chuck Blazer, former CONCACAF general secretary, had been working with the FBI. Most mentions of the larger-than-life character have focused on non-football aspects of his life, such as the fact that he had an apartment at Trump Tower just for his cats.

While others decided his name alone was enough material for a joke.

So, what next? After the release of FIFA flick United Passions, starring Tim Roth as Sepp Blatter (yes, really), maybe it’s time for a sequel.
Very excited about "Chuck Blazer: The Movie – How One Man Brought Down an Institution" starring Matt Damon winning Best Picture in ten years
