Fight fans react to the report Tyson Fury tested positive for cocaine

Likely to be stripped of titles

Tyson Fury is expected to be stripped of his world heavyweight titles after reportedly failing a drugs test for cocaine.

ESPN.com report that the British fighter failed a random VADA-conducted test for cocaine that took place on 22 September.

The very next day, Fury pulled out of his October 29-scheduled rematch with Wladimir Klitschko, claiming that he was ‘medically unfit’ to compete.

And in the moments immediately following the breaking news, the overall reaction was one of embarrassment while we wait to see what action will be taken against the 28-year-old.

Fury had been scheduled to fight the Ukrainian, who he beat in November last year to become world champion, on October 29.

But he was pulled from the rematch on September 23 by his management team who said the champion was ‘medically unfit’. It was the day before this announcement was made that VADA are reported to have collected the positive drug test sample.

Hennessy Sports, which manages the British boxer, had released a statement last week saying: ‘Tyson has, this week, been declared medically unfit to fight.

‘Medical specialists have advised that the condition is too severe to allow him to participate in the rematch and that he will require treatment before going back into the ring.

‘Tyson will now immediately undergo the treatment he needs to make a full recovery.

‘We and Tyson wish to express our sincerest apologies to all those concerned with the event and all the boxing fans who had been looking forward to the rematch. Tyson is understandably devastated by the development.

‘We will be making a further statement in due course. Until then, we ask that Tyson and his family be given the privacy and the space he needs to recover during this difficult time.’

Fury pulled out of the on-off rematch with the Ukrainian, scheduled for October 29. Klitschko now looks set to face fellow British IBF world champion Anthony Joshua in November.
