Wayne Rooney fulfilled his dream of representing Everton in Europe on Thursday night.
Although Wayne Rooney’s performance wasn’t exactly the stuff of nightmares, he didn’t contribute a whole lot to Everton’s drab 1-0 win over Ruzomberok in the third qualifying round of the Europa League.
The Toffees got the job done, albeit not in a very convincing fashion and Rooney didn’t look particularly sharp in the game.
From the get-go, it was clear that this was going to be a very low-key affair, with plenty of empty seats around Goodison for Rooney’s 100th career appearance in Uefa competitions.

Rooney did not get the game’s only goal that was grabbed by Leighton Baines in the 64th minute.
Less than 10 minutes later, Rooney had his ‘best’ chance of the game, an ambitious effort from 30 yards out that was as a wayward as they come. He looked up, attempted to curl the ball into the top corner, but it nearly hit the top corner of the stand.

Empty seats in the background? Check.
Terribly executed shot? Check.
Frustrated grimace on Rooney’s face? Check.
Summed up the occasion pretty damn well. Let’s hope the return leg has a little more action.
