Floyd Mayweather actually makes honest admission about Conor McGregor fight

This can't be construed as bollocks

For one brief moment on Thursday, Floyd Mayweather said something of his fight with Conor McGregor that seemed 100% genuine.

If you haven’t put two and two together, there is a reason why Floyd Mayweather is consistently labelled as ‘boring’ yet has still managed to be the biggest PPV draw in sports history. That’s because he’s not only is he one of the greatest boxers to ever grace a ring, but he’s also a world class promoter.

Think about all the things Mayweather has said to the media to hype up his August 26 date with ‘The Notorious’. A lot of what ‘the Money Team’ have said has been calculated compliments about the Dubliner’s abilities in order to convince the naysayers that he has a chance of winning.

We have no doubt that McGregor and his team believe they can pull off the upset but considering how many times we’ve been duped by Mayweather in the past, it’s difficult to pay much heed to the notion that McGregor ‘has the edge on paper’.

During his official media workout in Las Vegas on Thursday, Mayweather actually dropped what appeared to be rare truth bombs. Although his comments implied that he would be pushing the action against the MMA knockout artist, which is up for debate in a big way, the suggestion that the fight going the distance would be a moral victory for McGregor rings true.

“I would say so. If the fight goes the distance it is a win for him. But I don’t think that is going to happen. He is going around saying that it will be over in four rounds, and he might be right. But it will be because I say so, and not him.”

McGregor may very well outclass him over 12 rounds, but a man hearing the final bell in his professional boxing debut against an undefeated prizefighter has to be considered a Rocky Balboa-esque victory. Some people are convinced he won’t even land a punch, so going the distance would prove a lot of doubters wrong.

However, Mayweather then put his promoter hat back on and made promises that should raise a few eyebrows.

“The people should expect entertainment, and that is what I am going to give them. They have to understand that this is a show. One of the biggest shows in history. No one is going to be disappointed.”

Just like the ‘Fight of the Century’ against Manny Pacquiao, eh?
