We’re still calling B.S on this superfight, but Floyd Mayweather has us doubting ourselves.
The various obstacles that would need to be overcome to allow a super fight between Conor McGregor and Mayweather seem almost too many to mention.
Money, venue, would it be straight up boxing, or a mix of MMA and boxing, and what’s in it for both men in the long run among many others.
The UFC would surely never allow it to happen, but according to Floyd Mayweather, it’s full steam ahead for the possibility of the American facing the 27-year-old Irishman.
Speaking ES news, Mayweather claims he has a masterplan including dates, venue, and even different countries to make the fight happen this year.
And some of that masterplan includes paying veiled compliments to the UFC featherweight champion’s speed in the octagon.
“If I do fight, it’s only against Conor McGregor … not against nobody else.
“Because this matchup is so intriguing. You have a boxer against an MMA fighter — one of the best MMA fighters to ever … stand up and do it. He’s a strong fighter, and when I look at his fights, he’s a little faster than I thought he was.”
The Dubliner’s next UFC fight is likely to be closer to the end of 2016 with the winner of the UFC 200 clash between Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar facing McGregor to unify the featherweight belt again.
Mayweather admits that his schedule is free, and that he is willing to discuss a date for a possible fight, anytime, anywhere.
“I’m pretty sure we’re going to have a master plan to make that fight happen.
“It hasn’t happened, yet, but we locked down some dates, me and my team, me and Al Haymon, me and Leonard Ellerbe. We locked down some dates, in different countries, in different cities in the United States.’
Perhaps word has got back to McGregor, as it looks like he has ordered some special boxing boots from Reebok to help him work on his striking.
