Football fans in the US are crowdfunding a banner calling for their manager’s head

American sports fans are warming to football more and more by the week.

The likes of Robbie Keane and Steven Gerrard have made a big splash in Los Angeles, while attendances are often higher than at some Premier League grounds.

With that in mind, it feels like it was only a matter of time before the idea to fly a banner over a stadium calling for a manager’s dismissal made it across the Atlantic.

But the entrepreneurial spirit of Americans means that, rather than getting a few rich fans to club together, they are crowdfunding their efforts to get rid of national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann.

Klinsmann has not been too popular of late, with a CONCACAF Cup defeat against Mexico proving the final straw for Jeff Rosano and his buddies.

The fans, from St Louis, Missouri, have set themselves an $800 target on the Indiegogo crowdfunding site in order to pay for a plane to fly the words ‘Fire Klinsmann’ before and/or during a future US home match.

Maybe if this catches on they might try another European invention – promotion and relegation from the top flight.
